NMM – Mobile Learning

We have created 5 stand-alone animated clips for the National Maritime Museum to help illuminate objects in the museum's collection. Students visiting the museum can now get their hands on tablet PC's and carry them around the gallery snapping photos of objects that interest them… 5 lucky objects trigger our animations, which shed more light [...]

NMM – Royal River

Here's a screen-friendly version of our 5000 pixel-wide moving painting for the National Maritime Museum's amazing exhibition: 'Royal River, Power, Pageantry and the Thames', complete with behind-the-scenes footage..! The looping animation adorns 4-screens above the museum's reception desk, and was visited by the Queen in April 2012. We like to think she stood awhile and [...]

Gergely Wootsch Reel

Our latest signing, director Gergely Wootsch has a mesmerising style, but he's also a talented animator, so here's his animator's reel. It includes animation he's created at other studios, under different directors, so here's a quick credit list: 00:02 - Personal work 00:06 - 'This is Not Real' (RCA, 2011) 00:12 - 'Ordaemonium' (RCA, 2010) 00:31 - 'Matter Fisher' [...]

This Is Not Real

We present the Trailer for director Gergely Wootsch's graduation film from the Royal College of Art, 'This Is Not Real'. A staggering mix of heady digital graphics and beautifully atmospheric character animation, the film has been shown around the World, including Anchorage (where it was runner-up), Anilogue, onedotzero and Raindance. A young boy's chimerical journey [...]

Google China

Google? In China? Well… yes. We were asked to provide a high-tec but earthy 3D CGI sequence for an upcoming Google conference in China. Based on the idea of 'making dreams possible' we worked to an extremely tight schedule and created a wooden world upon which we see stencilled Chinese characters and illustrations. The video [...]

ET1 Branding

Steve Smith created two emotional spots for Greek channel ET1's rebranding, via Red Bee Media. Based on "Humour" and "Astonishment" the two clips needed quite seperate thinking, despite both being realised in 3D. Mixed through both clips are high-resolution ultra-slow-motion live-action shots of exploding glitter, water jets and bouncing marbles! Director: Steve Smith Producer: Richard [...]

NMM – Weather Reconstructions

Beakus were asked by fimmaker Mike Paterson to create three unique videos for the National Maritime Museum's 'Old Weather' project. The aim is to promote the campaign to crowdsource volunteers to transcribe the weather recordings in hundreds of old ship's log books. The data will feed in and augment existing data of weather patterns through [...]

Fun Facts – The Making Of!

Steve Smith's idents for Russian Channel 'Bibigon' scooped a British Animation Award for their diversity and broad appeal. We thought we'd show a little of how they were made, focussing on the 3D ident 'Eel'. You can see the finished ident here.

3D Fun Facts for Bibigon

These British Animation Award, and Annecy Crystal winning spots for Russian kids channel Bibigon, were directed by Steve Smith. A team of six 3D animators worked hard to realise each spot in just 2 weeks. Commissioned by Red Bee Media you can watch a further set of 2D animated clips here.

August

Matthias Hoegg's elegant, subtle and poetic short 'August' drops us in a caravan park where ants busy themselves beneath boozed-up sun-worshippers and reddened hedonists. The two worlds reflect one another as all the while the summertime passes slowly. Hoegg's stylistic use of 2D and 3D design, his strong, structured framing, and sumptuous colouring, add up [...]
